Sister Mary Lois Joseph O.Carm. went to her eternal reward on the morning of April 12, 2026, at Kahl Home, in Davenport, Iowa in the 65th year of her religious life. Sr. Teresa Kathleen, Sr. Jacqueline Joseph, Sr. James Teresa of the Holy Angels, Sr. Constance de Lourdes, and Sr. Lois’ two sisters, Catherine and Evelyn, were at the bedside praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet when Sr. Lois passed away peacefully.
Mary Adele Baniewicz was born on December 14, 1943, to Casmir and Violet (nee Wretman) Baniewicz in Chicago, Illinois. Her sisters: Catherine Baniewicz of Tucson, AZ and Evelyn Baniewicz of Chicago, IL were most attentive to her throughout her final illness. Sr. M. Lois Joseph entered the Community on September 7, 1961, professed first vows on April 1, 1964, and professed perpetual vows on December 8, 1969. Her first Mission was to Kahl Home, where she was stationed four additional times during her religious life. In addition to serving as a Registered Nurse, Prioress, Administrator, Assistant Prioress, Assistant Administrator, and Bursar. Sr. Lois Joseph also served as the Novice Director at St. Teresa’s Motherhouse from 1981-1991 and from 1997-2000. Her final Obedience was to Kahl Home where she had been serving as the Local Prioress and the Director of Mission Integration.
Humorously known for her frequent “doodles”, Sr. Lois was a quiet, peaceful, and faithful prayer warrior who had great devotion to the Eucharistic Presence and was loved and respected by all. On this 8th day of the Octave of Easter, which is known as Divine Mercy Sunday, the Gates of Heaven are wide open, and the Lord whom Sr. M. Lois Joseph served so faithfully welcomed her with open arms!
