Sister M. Dolores Courtney O.Carm. passed away in the Lord on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in the 66th year of her religious life.

Regina Dolores Courtney was born in Pittston, PA on June 16,1932 to Edward and Josephine (nee Watts) Courtney of Quakertown, PA., and had five sisters and two brothers. Before entering the Community, she attended the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing and received her diploma on November 11, 1957. Sr. Mary Dolores entered the Community on February 2, 1958, received the Habit on September 24,1958, professed First Vows on December 8, 1960, and professed Perpetual Vows on March 28, 1965. Her first mission was Sacred Heart Home, Philadelphia, where she was stationed for two years. She was then sent to Josephine Baird Home, NYC, where she attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Yonkers, graduating as an L.P.N. on September 15, 1962. After graduation she received Obediences to Carmel Hall (Detroit, MI), Mount Carmel (NYC) Carroll Manor (MD), Ferncliff Nursing Home (NY), and St. Margaret Hall (OH). She returned to Philadelphia and was again sent to Sacred Heart Manor (1990-2009), and later to Carmel Richmond (2009-2019). Sr. Dolores was assigned to various areas of ministry in the Homes where she served, including nursing, activities for Independent Living residents, Adult Day Care, and computer input for nursing and administration. She was also known to generously use her talent at needlecraft for fundraisers in the Homes.

In 2019 due to failing health, Sr. Dolores received her final Obedience to Ozanam Hall, enhanced living Convent. A quiet, prayerful Sister, who quietly served the Lord for many years has departed this world for eternal life. We pray that the gates of heaven open wide for her, and that she be joyfully reunited with her deceased Carmelite Sisters, family members, and friends. May Sr. Dolores now rest peacefully in the Lord.
