Sister Maria Agnes O.Carm. went to her eternal reward at approximately 1:45 a.m. on July 23, 2026, at Our Lady’s Manor, Dublin, Ireland, in the 47th year of her religious life.
Agnes Maria O’Leary was born in County Wexford, Ireland, on June 6, 1952. She was the fifth of thirteen children born to Thomas and Margaret (nee Reddy) O’Leary, who preceded her in death. Having studied nursing in England and later working as a nurse at Our Lady’s Manor, Sr. Maria Agnes entered the Congregation on November 7, 1979. She professed First Vows on April19,1982, and returned to Ireland to begin her first Mission at Our Lady’s Manor (1982-1986). Sr. Agnes professed Perpetual Vows on September 12, 1987. She also served at Ferncliff Nursing Home (1986-1992), St. Teresa’s Motherhouse (1992-2003) where she was appointed the Postulant Director, and later the Prioress. From there she was transferred to Sacred Heart Home (2003), Carmel Richmond (2006-2017), Marian Manor (2017-2024) where she served as Prioress, and Mary Manning Walsh Home (2024-2026). In addition to serving as a nurse, Sr. Agnes also provided pastoral care to the residents. Upon being diagnosed with a very serious illness, Sr. Agnes returned to Our Lady’s Manor on April 15, 2026, where she could be close to both her Carmelite Sisters and her family during her final illness.
Sr. Maria Agnes lived life “light as a feather” and rather than carry heavy burdens, was a joyful and prayerful witness of God’s faithful love, lifting everything up to Him. We trust that she was welcomed joyfully as she danced her way through the Gates of Heaven to receive her eternal reward!
