Feast Day Saint: Saint Patrick
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was born in 385 AD in Great Britain. At age 16, he was captured and sold into slavery in Ireland. During his captivity, he became a very devout Christian. When he escaped six years later, he returned home and began studying for the Priesthood. He then returned to Ireland as a missionary. St. Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. One might say that my devotion to St. Patrick began before I was born. My Mom and Dad told me I was either going to be a Patrick or a Patricia. My parents were both born in Donegal, Ireland so my Irish roots run deep. My Maternal Grandfather was also named Patrick. I grew up knowing the importance of Faith and Family. I loved hearing the story of St. Patrick bringing the Catholic Faith to Ireland and using the shamrock to explain the Trinity to the Irish people. I have had a special devotion to St. Patrick ever since I can remember so I am very proud to celebrate my Feast Day on March 17th. It truly is a grand Day to celebrate.
On the day I was born, my mother wanted to name me Adelaide (this was her name). My father wanted me to be named after his brother, Pasquale. My father told me that the name,Pasquale, stood for Patrick. You know who won on my name. I also enjoyed going to Irish Dances in New York City. My father thought that the baby stork took me from Ireland and delivered me to Jamaica, Queens, New York!
